Mallard ducks floating on a river

Read Joshua 4:1-7

I was only 7 years old at the time, but the 1965 flood of the Mississippi River is something I will always remember. The volume of water was so great in the river near where we lived that shipping was suspended, the dams were opened, bridges were watched closely, and many downtown businesses in Davenport, IA were flooded out. Although we were not directly affected, many people we knew were. It was quite a display of how God’s creation can easily throw off the boundaries man tries to put on it. [bctt tweet=”It was quite a display of how God’s creation can easily throw off the boundaries man tries to put on it.” username=”circuitriter”]

Israel Escapes from Egypt

Israel faced flood waters as the transient refugees from Egypt stood ready to invade the land God was giving them. As they looked from the east bank of the Jordan toward Jericho, a torrent of bubbling, churning waters stood between them and the Promised Land. Although nowhere near as wide as the Mississippi, the Jordan seemed a certain match for the massive band of Israelites. There were no bridges, no ferry boats – a miracle was in order. God provided that miracle by stopping the water flow and allowing the Israelites to cross on dry land.bolder perched on the side of a hill. Blue sky in the background.

From the middle of the river, Joshua had 12 stones removed to set up as a memorial to what God has done. Israel was to never forget!

The Take-Away

God has given you a memory and the ability to record what He has done in your life. Today don’t forget the floods He has stopped or altered. Don’t forget the salvation He has given. Don’t forget where He has brought you from and where you are headed!
